The DC-4 first entered service as a transport during World War 2. The DC-4 was employed after the war as the first long-range 4-engine airliner employed by the major airlines. Surplus C-54s were originally used as early post-war airliners until new production aircraft were produced like the United Airlines aircraft produced in 1947. This plastic model assembly kit represents one of several aircraft used by United Airlines from 1947 to the late 1950s
